The information in these pages among others was presented through the years to many countries, corporations and individuals who would have an interest in future transportation. More data and details were supplied later for higher speeds,lower costs,etc, to make it an even more viable system for global applications as well as rural and local uses. The electric cars below may play a major role also in these systems including another 3rd generation using higher speed passenger capsules in evacuated tubes and whose carriers (wheels and batteries) to be used on highway and road only.

(IMAGE NO.1 Above) In the early sixties after spending several hours with the Chief Engineer of R&D at the office of the U.S.DOT in Washington DC discussing my Dual Mode Maglev Concept (see below)using personal autos riding in a tube where they would be suspended (floating) magnetically and propelled in a tube type guideway while being spaced and controlled electronically by the system during their transit to destination. As the vehicles get off the network they then propel themselves like regular autos and using batteries rather than gas or other fuels. The Chief Engineer was quite receptive of my concept but doubted the feasability of magnetically suspending and propelling the vehicle. I told him that in Industry we were using both methods seperately and its just a matter of combining them. A few years later The US DOT financed research at MIT and they confirmed through experiments it was feasable. Not long after Japan and Germany among others took a shot at it and thus we have maglev trains(Above).In the early 90s I had an exhibit (See Image 52 below--part of it)down on Wall Street stating they were on the Right Track but going the wrong way. Displaying how my concept works. Since then newcomers are trying to claim it as theirs. Log into 'dual mode maglev' to get an idea of what they are claiming from my ideas below.

(IMAGE NO.5 Above) This FORD MOTOR CO. ad is giving us a hint of the future. They are well aware of what is coming. Standardization will be the next requirement so that all vehicle 'makes' can be adapted to the magnetic guideways. Either they conform to the new reality or 'fall out of the picture'. Others like General Electric Co., Bombardier, and many others for sure will want to participate if present automakers try to stall.

During the Johnson Administration years (1964 to 1969) the U.S. DOT was asking Individuals, Universities, and Corporations for ideas to alleviate the growing traffic congestions developing in urban and city areas caused by economic growth in the previous years just before. He invited me to Washington to explain it in detail. I did go. And so was disclosed my DUAL MODE MAGLEV concept below. Then, the only personal autos with access to and exit from, and riding at high speeds the magnetic guideways of the future.

These high speed tubes provide a controlled environment for the safety of the passengers and vehicles against all elements except earthquakes or terrorist acts if which occurs the system (That loop) automatically shuts down minimizing the damages. Should a power failure occur the vehicles can propel themselves to escapes hatches located every few miles as shown above(cont.)

(IMAGE NO.26 Above)In october 1969 The U.S. DOT wrote to me stating that although TRW studies were made on the various concepts including my Dual Mode Maglev, the only concept using personal vehicles in a magnetically suspended and propelled mode in a pipeline conceived and suggested at that time (1960s)they decided to consider the pallet method which was already in use in Europe loading autos on flatbed train cars through the Alps.Time was not ripe for my idea yet. Now that it is they are trying to rewrite history to try claiming my concept as theirs.===(cont.)

The three BI-MODAL systems above were the MARCO SYSTEM (mine), STARRCAR, and URBMOBILE.The arrow above points to "MARCO SYSTEM" -- 'Electromechanically suspended and propelled individually owned automobiles offering conventional automobile characteristics on the street and claiming speeds up to 300 mph in a tube type of guideway.' ---PAGE 1--- This synchronized system is based upon the principles that people are/ increasingly determined to be flexible in their movements in and around our urban centers; to come and go when they please, independant of schedules;and to seek the privacy, cleanliness, comfort and convenience that, so far, only the automobile has offered. Also,people want to have effective door-to-door transportation, and they wish to retain private ownership of their vehicle so that it can contain personal conveniences. In this system the main flow of traffic is provided by propelling and controlling the vehicles so as to move them in a synchronized pattern while permitting any vehicle to seperate from the synchronized pattern to become self proppelled at any desired station. The method has the capability of going beyond urban, local or mass transportation and can be integrated as a national or even international network in which each vehicle is controlled and propelled by the system to give safety and efficiency. The travelling time for the driver can be used for other purposes and the system eliminates the road hazards to high speed travel such as occasioned by bad weather, damage to the road, or unexpected obstructions. ---Page 2--- to ship freight in container vehicles which can enter the synchronized flow at any time there is capacity available. In this synchronized system the vehicles are propelled along a main line uniformly seperated with each one held in its own assigned space. This is distinctly different from earlier types of systems which have proposed that the individual cars should become coupled together to form an interconnected train.When the vehicles are moving along the main line past a station they travel at moderate speed and each has an assigned space of a moderate length, for example 30 M.P.H. and a 60 foot space. Along the stretches of the main line the vehicles are progressively accelerated and their assigned space proportionately increases. For example at 60 M.P.H. the assigned space becomes 120 feet long and at 300 M.P.H. it is 600 feet long. The particular spacing which is used and the top speed limit can be change as experience in use of the system is gained and as the control equipment is improved, and so these figures are only given as examples.In this manner a known number of vehicles pas any given point along the line per unit time, regardless of whether the vehicles are travelling fast or slow.A computer controller operates the overall system and regulates the application of power to each vehicle to maintain the synchronism. ---Page 3--- each vehicle is exactly controlled and all of the environmental conditions are known, that is, road hazards, human error,visibility conditions, and so forth are known; the overall safety of the system is inherently improved as compared with travel today. As shown in Figure 1, the privately owned vehicles V are driven in the manner of an automobile for local traffic flow. When a driver wishes to enter the network he approaches an entrance station and steers onto one of the entrance ramps E which are located at convenient points along theline L. As the vehicles moves up the entrance ramp, the driver automatically loses control over it, and the engine is turned off. The car is automatically inspected The doors and windows are closed and locked. If it is not in satisfactory condition, it is shunted onto a reject ramp R leading back to the street. Each vehicle carries a distinctive registration plate and mechanism for indicating where the driver wants to go. After passing inspection, the vehicle is automatically registered and its destination computed. The charge for the trip is also computed so that at the end of the month a bill for mileageuse of the system can be sent to the user.
